Thank you Dracus Steelbow for starting this thread. The fact that it has spawned 19 responses proves that Steelbow’s concern about the economy is valid even if the idea was a bit extreame.

I agree that there is a great divide between the rich and the poor. Such is life. But this is not life, so maybe some small steps can be taken to make the market a little less one-sided. That being said, I must state that the market SHOULD be slanted towards those that have worked to get good drops but still be fair/fun to the new or midlevel player. The trick is to keep the market, interesting to experienced players while allowing new players to participate in the market earlier in the game.

I like the responses from Rehevkor, Cash, & Plague.
I will list some of my own ideas. I welcome your thoughtful and considerate response.

In-game price checks:
A new player simply does not know the market. They can easily be taken advantage of. Most forums have some sort of price check, but how about an in-game one? Something like a “Town Clerk” that won’t buy your item but can tell you the last trade for it. It works for materials. For other things; time is the only answer. At some point most people catch on to the market. For example, when is it better to sell a drop than salvage it (Minor Runes)?

The merchants should follow the market.
Of course, they will never pay the market price. In fact, the price they will pay can even be significantly less, but it should be better than $108gp for a $10k gold item.

GW Staff should police price gouging.
I am not a programmer so I am unsure of the limitations but how about tracking excessive buying and selling of one item by a single person or guild. Just take a look at what happened to the Sup. Vigor Rune three hours after GW Staff reset all the runes prices for a good example.

Joining a guild should be a huge resource and benefit for members:
It is guild wars after all!
Experienced players can share knowledge. Guild storage is a way for experienced players to share the wealth with new members. Maybe a guild micro economy? A merchant and traders in the guild hall? I have not put a lot of thought into this idea yet. It could be very dangerous to the GW economy. Ideas for the guild hall are everywhere on the forums, so I will not say more.

there are good points and bad points to everyones idea that showed up here.

personally, i wouldnt give a rats ass if money drops were taken away. i dont really gain my money from money drops, its from selling my gold drops.

if you were talking about stripping us of our gold drops, then i would seriously be opposing your idea. but since its only money drops, i dont care for it.

I did have one idea...Maybe Guild WArs should take away money drops for a while, that way people will not have a source of income. And people will learn to make do with what they have.

any1 have any other ideas?
Says who? My stash fluctutes from 0 to 200K nowadays. 100K is a lot of gold or very little gold, depending on how you look at it.

It is definitely enough to get your 4 characters a "good life" in the game.

As i was reading the replies i saw that my thread wasnt taken in the way i wanted, and that is my fault. I meant it in no way to be mean to the poor, or affend the rich. I meant it to show that if there was maybe 4-5 days where there was no possible way to get gold other than selling items, then in those few days, it would be easy to route out the gready people, and hence forth deal with them.thx to every1 who posted a reply, espeically those with great ideas.

Lol, it wouldn't route out all the "greedy" people, they would still be there because they have the money to do what they want. All it does is punish those people who are new to the game and don't have enough money. Horrible idea.

5 k is a lot of money if you are creating a new character. Enough to buy you new armor after ascalon gets F'ed up. I agree with the previous post, that 5k is plenty at times. It all depends what your in the market for.

Alright this is just sad. I meant this is an IDEA. Not something for people to get mad at. Frankly i could care less if your posts consist of "Why take me money drops away if i have earned my 400k?". This hread was suppose to by composed of ideas, not for people to tell how much money they have.

Some people simply don't want to farm. I don't. It resembles way too much WORK [go out, do thing X repeatedly Y times, get paid], and that's something I don't want to do on my spare time.

[No, I'm not whining that I'm poor. I got Drok's armor, decent gear etc, by playing the game normally, looting everything I could, selling them to merchants etc, I'm perfectly happy with my char. Nor am I demanding anyone to give me items Z, N, M for free either ]
